Caisteal nan Geimhlean

Construction of this castle on a cliff was completed in 1582.
Caisteal nan Geimhlean means castle of the fountains due to all of the natural springs in the area.

It is reportedly over a 2 mile walk from the ferry on Kerrera to the castle.
You are walking through sheep grazed meadows with stone fences toward the sea and suddenly there is a castle!

Location:Gylen Castle

  1. Wowwww! This place is surreal and magical! These are all gorgeous pictures, the very first one with the castle in the distance is amazing..and its just out amongst the sheep pastures? I like the little nook where it looks like you could sit and read too.
