Caisteal Dhun Ollaigh

Caisteal Dhun Ollaigh overlooks the Firth of Lorn.

Dhun Ollaigh ( Olla's Fort) has been a dun or fort since the 6th century AD.

It was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Lorn.

This is the road I walked to the castle on from Oban as viewed from one of the castle windows.

I can't find the name of this island right now.

This is the very north tip of the isle Kerrerra, hoping to go there tomorrow.
I was headed there today, but my camera battery died. I walked south of Oban to where you get the ferry for Kerrerra and met up with two women walking in the brilliant sunshine and they told me how to get there for free.
Trying that tomorrow.

The castle was built in1247 by Eoghan MacDhugaill (Ewen MacDougall), the 3rd chief of clan MacDouigall.

Isle of Kerrerra from the castle.
